Shredded Chicken Sliders with Homemade BBQ Sauce

These easy Barbecue Chicken Sliders (made with shredded chicken) can be made in the crockpot or the oven (or even in the instant pot or on the stove). They’re perfect for a full meal or even as a tasty appetizer for your next party.  My favorite part is that they can be easily customized for the entire family, making them a versatile dinner, appetizer or even lunch option.

Swap out a traditional hamburger bun with Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, Romaine Lettuce ‘buns,’ or even make a bowl out of this by topping brown rice with this incredible BBQ chicken!

Bonus? We’re using my mom’s homemade barbecue sauce, and it is so, SO good.

These delightful little guys are the life of every party, and they’ll turn every meal you eat INTO a party.

I’m serious.

And if you’re super smart (like me) and whip up a batch of shredded chicken as part of your monthly meal prep, you can serve these Shredded Chicken BBQ Sliders at least once a week and have them on the table in no time!

How to Make Shredded Chicken Sliders with Homemade BBQ Sauce

Once you have your base (shredded chicken), you’re simply going to add your homemade barbecue sauce (keep reading for my mom’s recipe. It’s amazing!) and then serve on a King’s Hawaiian bun.

Instant sliders and a super happy family because they know that this dinner is going to be DELISH!

All out of slider buns? Or not feeling it on the carbs lately?

No worries!

They taste just as delightful in a boat of Romaine Lettuce.

Or you could even get REALLY wild and turn these shredded chicken barbecue sliders into a full-blown barbecue shredded chicken rice bowl.

(You know how much I love rice bowls, right?)

Amazing, right?

If you have a full family to feed like I do, you’re going to love the versatility of this recipe. You can make one batch of Barbecue Shredded Chicken and then allow your family to slide it onto the base of their choice.

Slider buns.

Rice.

Romaine lettuce.

And you didn’t have to spend all night in the kitchen making dinner. WIN! WIN!

Or should I say YUM! YUM!?

^^Sorry – just a little food humor for you.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Ingredients

Scale

BBQ SAUCE:

  • 1 ½ C Ketchup
  • 2 TBS Mustard
  • 6 TBS Brown Sugar
  • ½ tsp Cider Vinegar

BASE

Choose one of the following options as your base for this recipe, or provide them all for your family to choose their favorite.

  • Hawaiian rolls
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Brown rice (1 cup per bowl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Melt butter and coat a 9×9 Pyrex or casserole dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce. Set aside a portion for drizzling.
  4. Add shredded chicken to the barbecue sauce and mix well.
  5. Pour your shredded chicken/barbecue sauce mixture into your greased pan.
  6. Cover and bake for 25 minutes.

Add to the “base” of your choice (Hawaiian rolls, Romain lettuce or rice), drizzle with barbecue sauce and enjoy.

Notes

If you’d prefer not to use the oven, omit the butter. Mix the barbecue sauce and shredded chicken together and heat on the stovetop over medium heat until you reach your desired temperature.

I usually make a double batch of barbecue sauce. I mix half with the shredded chicken and leave the other half for garnish. My kids love to dip into extra BBQ sauce or drizzle extra on their sandwiches or rice bowls.

You can also use the storebought barbecue sauce of your choice.
