ORANGE JUICE BOURBON SLUSHIE (MADE THREE WAYS)

Now that we’re living in Northern Michigan, we’re doing our best to enjoy every single second of summer. From hiking to kayaking, swimming in Lake Michigan and spending lazy days in the backyard hammock, we’ve all decided that summer days are the best days.

(Until the winter, when we’ll say that winter days in the snow are the best days.)

One of our summer routines involves a day of fun in the sun followed by an evening of heavy snacks for dinner, campfires and fun with friends.

So I’ve teamed up with Florida’s Natural® Brand Orange Juice to share one of our favorite summer drinks recipes.

YOU’RE GOING TO LOVE THIS ORANGE JUICE BOURBON SLUSHIE

Florida’s Natural orange juice and lemonade are the perfect ingredients for refreshing summer drinks. Fresh from the grove, Florida’s Natural brings bright, citrus flavor that tastes like sunshine in a glass! And in these bourbon slushies, they combine to bring the perfect amount of sweet, tangy citrus flavor.

You can choose to make these slushies in three different ways.

As an Orange Juice Bourbon Slushie

As an Orange Juice Bourbon Mocktail

Or as an Orange Juice Bourbon Cocktail.

My kids (obviously) like the mocktail version. My husband prefers the straight up cocktail. I think it’s because you can make them faster and don’t have to wait for them to freeze.

Personally, I’m definitely a slushie kind of gal, and lately I’ve been enjoying mine with a popsicle garnish. That can be a thing, right?

HOW TO MAKE AN ORANGE JUICE BOURBON SLUSHIE THREE DIFFERENT WAYS

In a large pitcher, mix one cup of black tea, ½ cup of sugar, two cups of Florida’s Natural No-Pulp Orange Juice, three cups of Florida’s Natural Lemonade, half a cup of water and one and a quarter cups of Bourbon.

If making as a mocktail, omit the bourbon.

Pour into a freezer-safe dish (a 9×13 dish works best) and freeze for up to 8 hours or until it is the slushie consistency that you’re looking for.

If you’re making this as a cocktail, you can skip the freezing. Simply serve over ice.

THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENTS ARE FLORIDA’S NATURAL® ORANGE JUICE AND LEMONADE

Florida’s Natural® Brand Orange Juice is crafted with care by five generations of Florida farmers. They’re a farmer cooperative representing nearly 1,000 growers working together to produce the best juice possible. Unlike other national brands, Florida’s Natural orange juice only uses oranges hand-picked from their grower-owned orange groves in Florida. They never use imported oranges.

This Orange Juice Bourbon Slushie recipe is going to be at the top of your summer drinks list. It can be made with or without alcohol (mocktail anyone?), and can also be served as a summer cocktail instead of a frozen slushie. If you’re making an alcoholic mixed drink, be sure to give this easy recipe a try!

  • Total Time: 8 hours, 15 min
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 black tea bag
  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 3 cups Florida’s Natural Lemonade
  • 1 1/4 cup bourbon

  1. Steep black tea bag for five minutes in ½ cup of boiling water.
  2. Remove the tea bag and add ½ cup of sugar.  Mix thoroughly.
  3. Stir in Florida’s Natural Orange Juice, Florida’s Natural Lemonade and Bourbon.
  4. Pour mixture into a freezer safe container (9×13 or 9×9 container works best), or freezer bags. Cover. Let the mixture set in the freezer for up to 8 hours, or until “slushie.”
  5. Once frozen, drag a fork across the top to begin breaking up the slushie. Do this until desired consistency. Scoop into a small beverage glass and serve with a straw or spoon.

Notes

Make as a mocktail (no bourbon)

Make as a punch (don’t freeze)
