WHAT IS A FROSTED COFFEE?
Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee is a popular beverage offered by the fast-food chain Chick-fil-A. It’s a blended coffee drink that combines their signature vanilla Icedream (a soft-serve ice cream) with their cold-brewed coffee. The result is a creamy and frosty coffee beverage that offers a sweet and caffeinated treat. Think of it almost like a coffee milkshake.
WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF CHICK-FIL-A’S FROSTED COFFEE?
In March of 2016, Chick-fil-A launched its frosted coffee by combining their signature vanilla Icedream with cold-brewed iced coffee. Starting at just 240 calories, they touted it as having fewer than half the calories of a milkshake. What made it so special? Here’s what they had to say:
“Chick-fil-A’s cold-brew iced coffee process is typically reserved for specialty coffee houses, providing a hand-crafted taste. Unlike traditional techniques in which hot-brewed coffee is cooled and later iced, Chick-fil-A’s cold-brewed coffee is never heated; instead coffee grounds are infused with cool, filtered water and steeped using proprietary equipment for up to 24 hours to create a concentrate that is naturally sweeter with low acidity and bitterness. This is then blended with Chick-fil-A’s signature Icedream®.” https://www.chick-fil-a.com/stories/news/chickfila-frosts-coldbrew-coffee-creating-new-beverage
INGREDIENTS
Coffee
This can be the coffee of your choice. You can use hot coffee made in your coffee maker or french press (and then chill it or put it in the fridge), store-bought cold brew coffee and even instant coffee powder. If you have an espresso maker, you can even use espresso instead of coffee.
Vanilla Ice Cream
We used French Vanilla, but you can choose your favorite brand.
Whipped Cream
Some people will tell you this is optional. We greatly disagree.
See the recipe card for exact quantities.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Add your iced coffee and vanilla ice cream to your blender jar. Blend well.
Step 2: Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream. Enjoy!
HINT: If your milkshake is too thick, you can add tablespoons of milk (whole milk or low fat milk) one at a time to thin things out.
VARIATIONS
The great part of this recipe is how easy it is to customize it to your liking!
Add vanilla extract
Want to taste more of that rich vanilla flavor? Add a tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Use Flavored Coffee
Experiment with the flavor of coffee that you brew up. Different coffee flavors could give this a completely different taste. A hazelnut blend would be delicious.
Use Different Ice Cream Flavors
Swap out that boring vanilla ice cream for something more exciting. True coffee lovers might want to try coffee ice cream. Or you could use something unique like caramel ice cream or chocolate chip ice cream. Yum!
Have Fun with Toppings
Try adding chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, white chocolate chips or chocolate shavings to the top of your frosted coffee. Have fun with it as you create your own, unique delicious treat!
Seasonal Variations
Frosted coffee is versatile and can embrace the flavors of the seasons. In autumn, consider incorporating pumpkin spice or cinnamon for a cozy twist. During the winter, a dash of peppermint extract can transform your frosted coffee into a festive treat. Seasonal variations keep your delicious iced coffee experience exciting year-round.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Make it Dairy Free
You can absolutely make this recipe dairy-free by using the plant based or dairy-free ice cream of your choice!
STORAGE
We recommend whipping this up as you drink it. It doesn’t store well.
FAQ
If you don’t like coffee, you probably won’t love this recipe. That said, if you’re not a coffee drinker, you could try using a very weak cup of coffee versus strong coffee to see if that would make the taste more tolerable to you.
You could try using a strong cup of coffee and decreasing the ice cream a bit. You could also omit the whipped cream and avoid any other toppings.
Absolutely, just make a pot of coffee using decaf coffee grounds.
I’ve tried lots of other recipes, and the difference is so minimal I just don’t think it’s worth anyone’s time, effort or energy. I would much rather blend together some coffee and ice cream and enjoy a near-perfect match to the Chick-fil-A frosted coffee recipe – especially on a hot day during the summer months! If you really want to have a perfect match to what you can order off the menu, be sure to use a store-bought cold brew coffee rather than cooling down regular coffee that you make a home.

TOP SECRET: CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN COPYCAT
My kids are obsessed with the Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches, and we’ve been known to make the 90-minute round-trip drive JUST for dinner. We’ve tried so many frozen chicken nuggets at home from a variety of stores, but NOTHING compares to the Chick-fil-A breading (which I’m sure you know).
My sister-in-law used to make her own version at home, and the breading for the chicken included pickle juice and powdered sugar! That seemed like a lot of work to me, so I was thrilled when we stumbled on a store-bought exact duplicate of the Chick-fil-A chicken recipe – that we can heat up and eat at home!! I’m not even kidding, it is seriously an exact duplicate. I have no idea how they did it, but I’m so glad they did!
We were strolling through Costco last week, and of course my teens were trying all the samples. Our youngest was the first to try the chicken, and he immediately called us all over to take a sample of our own. And you guys – it is seriously an exact match for Chick-fil-A chicken! I toss it in the air fryer, but you can also do the oven or microwave. It’s quick, easy and so dang delicious. And now I don’t have to drive 90 minutes roundtrip. 🙂
I couldn’t find a link on their website, but you want to buy the KIRKLAND Signature Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks from Costco. They’re in the freezer section, and they are so delicious! The bag looks like this:
