STORAGE

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. We like using a mason jar with a lid as you will want to shake it well prior to using if it curdles or separates.

Freezing is not recommended as it may alter the texture. It’s best to prepare fresh batches as needed.

FAQ

Why use vinegar and lite coconut milk for dairy-free buttermilk?

The acidity of vinegar adds a tangy flavor, mimicking the acidity of traditional buttermilk. Lite coconut milk provides a creamy consistency without dairy.

Is lite coconut milk necessary, or can I use full-fat coconut milk?

Lite coconut milk is recommended for a lighter consistency, but you can use full-fat coconut milk if you prefer a richer flavor and texture.

Can I substitute other dairy-free milk for lite coconut milk

Yes, you can substitute other non-dairy milks like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk based on your preference.

Does the buttermilk taste like coconut?

The lite coconut milk imparts a subtle coconut undertone, but it doesn’t dominate the flavor. The overall taste is balanced and suitable for various recipes. So far, we have found it to be not detectable in recipes.

Is this buttermilk suitable for savory dishes as well?

Absolutely! This dairy-free buttermilk works well in both sweet and savory dishes, enhancing flavors without compromising the recipe.

Would this be considered homemade vegan buttermilk?

Sure – you could refer to it that way if you wanted to. It is vegan.

Is this non-dairy buttermilk recipe gluten free?

Yes. This is a gluten-free and dairy-free buttermilk recipe.

How would I use this dairy-free buttermilk?

Use it as a direct 1:1 substitution for regular buttermilk in all of your favorite recipes. You can make fluffy pancakes, buttermilk waffles, biscuits, baked goods or even vegan ranch dressing! Yum!
