Why you should drink pickle juice every day

By  |

When I was dating Even Steven in college, he used to eat a giant dill pickle every single night on the way home from the bars.

I thought it was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen really. He would be sitting there eating his pickle, while I inhaled at least one bagel dripping with butter. Okay fine – TWO bagels. (Big surprise that I gained the freshman 45).

I was able to overcome his pickle addiction – primarily because his duck boots were so cute – but that’s a story for another day.

Because it turns out – that Even Steven was a freaking genius – just ahead of his time. Get this – pickle juice is the new “magic” remedy for pretty much everything.

And we should all be drinking two ounces every day.

Here’s why:

Pickle juice is full of the exact electrolytes that our bodies need, and the probiotics exactly match what our guts need. We’re talking about dill pickle juice here – not the sweet kind (which is a total bummer if you ask me). Even Dr. Oz is recommending pickle juice for a variety of issues – but here are just a few pickle juice cures.

Have cramps? A hangover? PMS? How about heartburn? The amazing health benefits of pickle juice - and why you should be drinking pickle juice every day. Seriously.

Have cramps?
Whether you’re suffering from PMS or you’ve just run a marathon (or chased your kid around the playground), cramps are no joke – and no fun. Drinking 1/4 cup of pickle juice will have them cured in about 90 seconds or less. Seriously.

How’s that Hangover?
Turns out Even Steven’s nightly pickle was helping with a possible hangover the next morning. Alcohol leaves you feeling dehydrated, and pickle juice helps to get your sodium levels back to where they need to be. It’s probably best to drink it before you head out for the night, but it doesn’t hurt to take a sip before you got to bed. (See some more great hangover cures here.)

Have Heartburn?
I know – it sounds crazy! But the vinegar in pickle juice can actually help with heartburn. Take a sip before every meal and see if you notice a difference.

How’s your tennis game?
Experts are saying that a slug of pickle juice before exercising or before a big tennis match can actually improve your performance. Just last week, I was losing on the tennis court. I took a break, chugged some pickle juice, and came back and won it all.

Okay – not really. But I might just start packing some pickle juice for my next match – just in case.

Drink Your Pickle Juice!

Have cramps? A hangover? PMS? How about heartburn? The amazing health benefits of pickle juice - and why you should be drinking pickle juice every day. Seriously.

Whether you drink it as needed – or start sipping a couple ounces every day – give pickle juice a try and see if you notice a difference. Mix it up in your next martini or smoothie – or just take a swig straight from the pickle jar.

Whenever I had the hiccups, my dad would suggest I drink some pickle juice to cure them.

My name is Barbara and I drink pickle juice. There I said it, since I was a little girl, I would take a slug off the pickle jar. I’ve been ashamed of this for years. Now I’m free of my shame, thank you for giving me this platform to step out of the light of the fridge and into the kitchen. Now pass the pickle jar.

Would the water off a can of peas work? I used to drink that as a kid when mom would drain them. Now I won’t touch them. But I don’t know if I can swallow pickle juice. I don’t play tennis, but maybe if I drink the juice, I will!!!!

Wow, what’s next? My 10 year old likes the weirdest food combinations, but he is the healthiest kid I know. There may be something to this.

I live in NW Iowa and when football starts here in August it can sometimes be sweltering out there. The football guys have a jug of pickle juice on the sidelines at all games and practices until the weather cools down. Works way better the Gatorade to get over leg cramps. When my son told me this I thought he was lying. But it is true!

Pickle juice is my JAM. I like that this now means I’m a health nut, and not just a regular nut.

soooo are saying drink the vinegar from pickle juice or the real liquid from lacto fermented pickles? I love pickle juice and I have a terrible calf cramp so I’m going to try both because I HAVE both…a little experiment : )

My husband is going to be so happy to hear this. He’s been drinking pickle juice as long as I’ve known him!

If you like pickle juice, you’d love Pickle Pops. We ordered a box during my first pregnancy and they were a huge hit with our friends’ kids when they visited.

I love the idea of pickle juice for probiotics. I doubt my 3 year old would touch the stuff but my 13 month old foodie might. *adds pickles to grocery list*

A pickle is one of my youngest son’s favorite foods! I will have to fix him a cup of the juice to see how that goes over. Had no idea!!
