What’s That Smell

By  |

I’ve been smelling something for weeks now.

It’s been following me pretty much everywhere I go.

I cleaned out my car, but that wasn’t it.

I cleaned out the garage.

But that wasn’t it.

I went to town on the stroller, the couch, and the house in general.

I searched for diapers in my wall.

I even switched my deoderant – that’s how bad it got.

And then one day I was digging in my purse for a spare diaper, and what did I find?

Growing on the bottom of my purse.

MOLD, people.

My purse is now sitting outside. And the smell is miraculously gone.

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever found in your purse?

Argh! That’s horrible. I have mould under my car seat, as it was flooded like.. 2 months ago. I sprayed it with disinfectant but I physically can’t get to it to do anything more. It doesn’t smell though, luckily!

I have found used lollipops that my kids half ate and gave to me that I wrapped back up to throw away when I got somewhere with a garbage if that counts. I think when you are a mom, your pocketbook, becomes the garbage for kids’ trash until you can totally find a trash can, if that makes sense, because half the times that is the type of stuff I find in my purse.

I had a wallet that got “yogurted” once – a certain small person stuck a half-finished yogurt tube in my purse. This is why I can’t have nice things.

Mold!!! In the Vera bag I gave you? Are you serious? It’s not the one we are trading for the summer is it? Never mind, I don’t want to know.

A decomposing bandana in the bottom of our diaper bag, worst thing is all I smelled was a little sweet. I found it with my hang digging for something else. Gross gross gross

An egg left over from the easter basket in the bottom of the was a boiled egg that was cracked…We searched for days for the smell. ROTTEN EGGS really are terrible!

I found a rotten banana in a compartment of a backpack. We couldn’t figure out where all the fruit flies were coming from – for a couple of weeks! FINALLY found it. And yeah, I noticed a little bit of a smell, but since it was in the mud room with lots of stinky shoes, I didn’t think too much of it. I just threw the bag out.

When my oldest daughter was 2 she nonchalantly reached between the couch cushions and pulled out a banana that was intact, but blacker than black. She must have hidden it there “for later.” Needless to say, we stopped keeping the fruit bowl where she could reach it!

Not mom related but I once brought my purse to chem lab. We were making Kim-Chi (fermented cabbage). I didnt realize until days later (from the smell) that I had set my purse in Kim Chi drippings. EWW.

Ick, ick, ick! I read somewhere that women’s pocketbooks are geekier than public restrooms because we take them EVERYWHERE and rarely think to clean them. I try to wipe mine down with a Lysol wipe every once in a while, but YUCK. Also? My brother once left a half eaten sandwich in my car, and it slipped under the driver’s seat – took me forever to find it, and it was *mushy* by then. ::gag::

Oh my gosh! I think you have me beat with the mold. I found cat puke once – but I definitely consider that better than mold.

My car smelled so bad one time…like hangover breath. I could NOT for the life of me figure it out! I have a Honda Pilot and I finally found the reason for the smell…an onion had rolled out of a grocery bag and went down between the seats of the 3rd row…THANK.THE.LORD the outter “shell” of the onion was in tact…the insides were rotten. It was Awful…

As always your mom’s comment is the best! 😛

Blegh. Mold is pretty much my kryptonite! And after reading everyone’s comments I’m totally going to use a bleach wipe on the bottom of my purse as soon as I get home!

Anna, what in the world could have caused that!? I hope it wasn’t the Vera bag! 🙂

Same. Same. Same! Except add a y to “mold” & carrots. Yes, I finally couldn’t stand the smell and dug into my purse, felt something squishy. Turns out bag had a tear in the lining that a snack pack of carrots (that one of my kids didn’t finish and “saved” it in my purse for later) slipped through the hole. Emptied that stinky thing out and tossed it right into rubbish bin outside Blockbuster Video store. ugh, kids!

I just want to know where the mold came from. What type of material starts to grow fungus out of nowhere? Ick…

My daughter left a partially eaten Gogurt in the front passenger-side seat pocket of our minivan. Stiiiiiiiinky!!!

The only time I’ve had mold in my purse was when the ceiling of our apartment collapsed and most of the water drained right into it. Guess that’s what I get for putting it safely on the table instead of leaving it on the floor….

Whilst I’ve never found anything in my purse, after 2 weeks of smelling something disgusting emanating from my son’s room I discovered a cow’s ear he’d brought home from school camp at a cattle stud, wrapped in a tissue and lovingly placed in a drawer. Apparently they’d had a cow ear tagging demo and he’d asked if he could take it home with him??

I was reaching a book in my bag and when I opened it, there was a dead house lizard on it! EWWWW (that was during my college days..)

Ugh I would be so upset. I ate the musty smell of mold and if I found out I was the one carrying it around, I’d be horrified!!

I have found a pair of my three year old’s poopy underwear in my purse at least a week after she had her public accident!!! And it wasn’t in a plastic bag like I normally do either!

I found an opened can of seltzer water (thank god it wasn’t soda). Everything in my Michael Kors bag was soaked! I blame my husband for that one. His version of cleaning off the kitchen counter is putting everything that’s on it into my purse. I have found a whole bunch of bananas a can of cat food, dirty silverware to name a few things. I now have to hide my purse from him so that he doesn’t make it the catch all for all things sitting on the island in the kitchen!

My cat peed in my purse last week. ALL OVER my brand new slightly pricey wallet. I have no idea why she did this…she peed in my shoes the next day.
