Spring, Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips, Family Goals and Together Counts

Can you feel it?

Can you hear it?

Are you starting to get a little excited?

Spring is nearly here, folks. I know – some of us are still stuck in a snowbank (Hi, Mom!) – but trust me when I tell you that in a matter of weeks, it will be spring!

Please… let it be Spring in a few weeks!

To celebrate our first 70 degree day (which I’m hoping is right around the corner), I’m going to wear my bikini and go for a jog around the neighborhood.

Kidding.

I’m pretty sure that would scare Spring away altogether.

BUT – this time of year always makes me want to be outside more.

Move a little more with the family.

And why is it that a little sunshine makes me start craving fresh veggies and homemade guacamole?

And also Salt & Vinegar potato chips. Please notice the capitalization choices I made – because those suckers are sacred!

To celebrate Spring, I’m teaming up with Together Counts as an ambassador for the entire year. Yeah – the entire year, people.

Together Counts is a program inspiring active and healthy living through energy balance. Calories in, calories out – all things in moderation.

Which is perfect – because I’m all about that too. (Not sure if you noticed that whole entire health section on my blog? Ahem.)

Our Family Goals for the Rest of the Year

As part of our partnership, I was asked to share our family health goals with you. Of course, my first goal was to spend more time making fun of Even Steven.

But Even Steven didn’t think that really counted as a “family health goal.”

So let’s go with this…

My youngest kids turned 5 and 3 last week. FIVE AND THREE!

Which means the baby that I always refer to is now THREE YEARS OLD – and can no longer be referred to as a baby.

Well, that’s according to Even Steven, but I’m pretty sure I can call this kid a baby for as long as I want.

And in the blink of an eye, we have no more babies in carriers or double strollers (or both). And for about two seconds I mourned the days when I would have two toddlers in a stroller and a baby strapped to my chest and spend my mornings walking the neighborhood with Big Hairy Dog.

Yeah – I know.

I said I was only sad for about two seconds, and then I started jumping for joy because THIS FEELS AWESOME!

In terms of our mobility as a family, things are getting easier.

So our family goal for 2014 has been to GET OUTSIDE MORE! Even when the weather isn’t exactly what we want it to be.

Which means that we’ve taken several walks in the snow.

And have been on countless sledding “adventures” (which may or may not have caused me to stop speaking to Even Steven for a few days afterwards.)

We’re not focusing on any big fitness goals or any big “health food” initiatives. Just all things in moderation. Moving every day.

And trying really hard not to complain about this weather.

    Well yes we ARE in a snowbank – thanks for reminding me! But Just taking a second to let you know that I still have snowpants in the basement that you used to wear when we went UP North in the Winter and I know they will still fit you – then you don’t have to wear those jeans when you got sledding. It’s not appropriate – or warm enough! I’ll get them out for the next time you visit. You’re welcome. Love the kids pictures 🙂

    I am looking forward to spring because once spring gets here in the blink of an eye is summer. And I loooove summer. Tanning, ice cream, beaches, ice cream, taking family trips and did I say ice cream?

    Love your mom’s comment that jeans aren’t appropriate for playing in the snow 🙂 Of all the reasons not to wear jeans in the snow (i.e your butt cheeks turning into ice cubes), them not being appropriate is most definitely the best reason not to. 😉 yep.
