Blogging Tips and Tricks

I’m Going Back to College

By  |

That’s right. For one weekend in June, I will be going back to college.

Only this time I’ll be a professor.

Sort of.

Okay – so I’ll be a speaker.

Well, a co-speaker.

And if you’re a blogger or a writer, you can come too!

Introducing Blog U

A group of amazingly talented bloggers that I’m friends with have banded together to form a blogging conference.

Yes, I have friends that coordinate blogging conferences!

Blog University Conference

The Blog University Conference will be an intimate conference that answers all of your questions about becoming a writer, getting published, promoting your work and – even how to make money while doing it! You can click here for the full list of sessions.

For those of you that have been to blogging conferences in the past (or have thought about it), you know that they can get expensive. Fast.

And that’s what makes BlogU different!

Blog U Conference Info

We’re taking over the University of Maryland. We’re staying in the dorms, and eating in the dining hall. Your food and entertainment is included in the cost of your ticket.

I’m on the Faculty

I’m thrilled to be teaming up with Ilana at Mommy Shorts to teach two sessions.

Anna and Ilana

One will be all about how to monetize your blog. I’ll be sharing a few of the things I’ve learned – and I’ll be taking notes from Ilana right along with you. She even has a Mommy Shorts office!

And our other session will be all about Pinterest and Instagram. Strategies for increasing your followers, getting your stuff seen and how to use both platforms to boost your blog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who else will be teaching?
The faculty of this conference is a powerhouse of best-selling authors, social media gurus and women doing what they love! I’ve already mentioned myself and MommyShorts. But did I mention Jen from People I want to Punch in the Throat? Or BabySideburns? Or how about Honest Toddler? Together, the BlogU faculty have a combined social media presence of over 1 million people!

What are office hours?
Unique to the intimate setting and limited availability of tickets for BlogU, you’ll have access to meet, hang out with, and pick the brains of these writing geniuses in an informal setting. Ask questions, get feedback, (or just ask for an autograph) from the people who’ve been there, figured it out, and want to share what they’ve learned with you!

What’s included in my ticket price again?
Your ticket is all-inclusive – all the sessions you choose to attend, accommodations on the beautiful and historic Notre Dame of Maryland University campus, meals, social events, and the opportunity to fast-forward your writing career, hone your skills, make friends, and network!

Okay. I’m sold. How much is it?
Click here to see the three pricing options. Once you register, you’ll be added to the BlogU Facebook group to start networking with the attendees and faculty before the conference!

Will there be beer bongs and frat boys?
Oh wait – I was the only one thinking that? My bad…

PS – A very special thank you to Robyn at Hollow Tree Ventures (also on the faculty) for helping me write this blog post. Apparently I am qualified to be on the faculty of BlogU – but when it comes to actually writing a blog post about it – I completely forget how to write.

Go visit Robyn for her hilarious take on parenting and life!

I want nothing more than to go to BlogU. Seriously. I will even give up my Bonnaroo trip this year for BlogU. Only problem for me is although the ticket isn’t that bad, the airfare is. I’m still making it my life mission to attend this year! I not only need to get the hell out of Nashville, but some of my favorite bloggers are teaching and going to be attending! Hopefully, I will see you there.

One of my favorite things in life is when one of my friends writes a blog post that’s WAY better than mine, gives me credit, and links to me – thanks! I can’t wait to see you in June – GO BLOGU! GO BLOGU!

If only this were withing DRIVING distance. UGH! I already signed up for Blogher in San Jose in July, and I have an academic conference to attend in March. (In the real world, I’m an English professor — TELL NO ONE!) So, there is no way I can do this one, too.
But if you are doing it next year, let me know. I will put this on my calendar.

Anna, hearing what you have to say is one of the best reasons to get schooled ever! Can’t wait to finally meet your gorgeous face in person!

I’m not in the group yet. I think I may have registered under my married name, and I have two FB profiles and a Writer’s “product” page. Here is the link to my FB profile (Lisa R. Petty) that I would want to use for the group.

I know. I have to go and make things confusing.
