My Life

Christmas Through the Years

By  |

In the last 9 1/2 years since we got married, Even Steven and I have lived in two different cities, three different houses, we’ve had three kids, my hair color has changed several times – and there are a couple years that we can’t even remember.

As I get ready to {finally} mail out this year’s Christmas cards, I thought you might enjoy a recap of our Christmas pictures as a married couple…

Spoiler Alert: You’re about to learn Even Steven’s real name! {And Big Hairy Dog’s too!}

2002

Our first married Christmas. And our first Christmas with Big Hairy Dog. We were living in Richmond, Virginia. Poor Even Steven’s head (and glasses)! Notice the lack of ornaments around the bottom of the tree? Big Hairy Dog ate every last one of them… My hair is an orange-ish color.

2003

We have no recollection or memory of this Christmas at all. We’re not sure what we did or who we did it with. We were still living in Richmond. We still had Big Hairy Dog. That’s about all we know. My hair is blonde.

2004

We sold our house in Richmond, moved to Cincinnati, lived with Even Steven’s mom for a few months and then bought a new house. Then we gutted the kitchen and dining room and a guy named Bob lived with us for three months during the renovation {that’s a story for another day…} My hair is very, very blonde

2005

This was the year that we ran the marathon {and nearly got divorced because of it.}  My hair is blonde(ish).

2006

2006 was a year of few changes for us. Which was good – because 2007 was full of change! My hair = VERY blonde. (Even Steven in this picture = drunk.)

2007

Miles’s first Christmas! This was our first night out after he was born. We went to a party across the street while Bing (Even Steven’s mom) watched Miles for us. My hair is still blonde – and very short.

2008

Pregnant with Alice! Even Steven got me a Dyson… love that guy! My hair is on its way back to my natural color.

2009

Alice’s first Christmas! Miles and Alice ate all of Santa’s cookies before bed. Just a month later, our house was on the market, and we started the home-buying process! I can’t remember my hair that year – In fact, I don’t remember a lot of that year…

2010

Pregnant with Simon! This was our first Christmas in our new house, and the year that I quit my job to stay home. I tried so hard to take a great Christmas picture of my two kiddos – but Miles appears to be trying to choke Alice in every single one… I still sent them out with our card, though…  My hair looks a lot like it does this year – only this year, I’m NOT pregnant!

2011

You’ll have to wait to see our picture and read our book…  But I will show you my attempt at a Christmas picture of all three kids. These were the two best pictures taken. Needless to say, I chose a different picture to send with our card…

OMG! Do I recognize Simon's outfit? Is it bad I am dressing Luke more like a baby this year for Christmas than when he wore that last year in an attempt to KEEP HIM A BABY….so I don't have to have another one?!

God I love your honesty. I am Soooooo tired of the Barbie-Doll-Blog stories- you know… married to my best friend, 3,4,5,6 perfect kids who take perfect pictures and I have a perfect life …. your honesty isa breath of fresh air…. cute kids and your hair is way better not "very blonde"…me too. I did very blonde twice and it was not a good look.

For some reason I can't connect to your books right now. I cannot remember how I first got linked to your blog, but I am enjoying it! Do you currently live in Cincinnati? We're in West Chester.

LOL. that first year of not being pregnant (again) I so remember that! I was so happy when our youngest turned 1 and it was the first time I wasn’t pregnant again. That’s also when it got a little easier handling the kids & home. *happy dance*
