Simple DIY Paper Flowers

Let’s face it, getting kids to drink water can be a challenge, especially when the temptation of sugary beverages is all around. The folks at NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® believe that water can and should be fun, and have recently launched the new NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® 8oz “Share-a-Smile™” Kid Designed Edition, which features eight winning designs from the brand’s 2016 “Share Your Smile” contest.

Parents were asked to have their children draw what makes them smile for a chance to win great prizes, including a chance to have their child’s design commercially produced and included on Nestlé Pure Life Kid Designed Edition labels. From a panda and his pals floating through the sky, to a surfing hippo, to friends frolicking at the beach– you can’t help but smile and let your imagination soar with the new Nestlé Pure Life Kid Designed Edition.

With NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE® staying hydrated is not only easy, but also fun for the entire family. So when  they invited me to create something with my kids that makes us smile, I knew just what to do.

With spring right around the corner, we created paper flowers out of tissue paper, cupcake liners and paper straws. And we used Nestlé Pure Life Kid Designed Edition water bottles as vases (naturally.)

These paper flowers are super simple to make and require very few supplies. They can be used to decorate your home or to give as gifts.

My daughter is already working on a special bouquet for her teacher.

Simply follow the steps below to learn how to make each type of flower and then start creating!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

  • You will need four sheets of tissue paper cut into 10 x 10 inch squares (this will make enough for two flowers.)
  • A stapler
  • Paper straws to use as a stem

Steps 2 – 5: Create Your Flower

  • Stack your sheets of tissue paper on top of each other, and fold like an accordion.
  • Cut in half.
  • Flatten the top of your paper straw and staple it to one of your tissue paper halves. Using another straw, repeat this process for the other tissue paper.
  • Separate the tissue paper pieces and shape them into flower petals.

Ta daa! You just created a super simple tissue paper flower! Repeat these steps to create an entire bouquet.

And don’t forget to sip from your Nestlé Pure Life Kid Designed Edition water bottles as you create, and then use the bottles as vases. You can even use the label on your bottle for inspiration as you create your flowers.

These flowers made of cupcake liners may be even easier to create than the tissue paper flowers. Simply follow the steps below to start creating.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

  • You will need at least two cupcake wrappers
  • Paper straws to use as stems
  • Hot glue gun
  • Beads or glitter to use on the inside of your flower
  • Glue

Steps 2 – 5: Create Your Flower

  • Flatten your two cupcake wrappers and use glue to stick them together.
  • Choose one side to be the front of your flower, and glue on your beads or glitter.
  • Flip your flower over, and use a glue gun to attach the stem.
  • Get creative in how you decorate your flower. Glitter, stickers and even more layers of cupcake liners can be used for the middle.

Ta daa! You just created a super simple flower out of cupcake liners! Repeat these steps to create an entire bouquet.

And don’t forget to sip from your Nestlé Pure Life Kid Designed Edition water bottles as you create, and then use the bottles as vases.

Stay Hydrated with NESTLÉ® PURE LIFE®

  • In January 2017, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics released their latest data on kids’ sugar-sweetened beverage consumption: The new report found that more than two-thirds of children in the US consumed at least one sugary beverage on any given day; roughly 30 percent consumed two or more a day.
  • The 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that the primary beverages consumed be either calorie-free – like water – or should contribute beneficial nutrients such as fat-free and low-fat milk and 100% juice.
  • Replacing a single 12-ounce, 140 calorie sugar sweetened beverage with water each day for a year can cut more than 65 cups of sugar from one’s diet.
