I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m feeding my kids all summer long.
For the past few years, I’ve taken about an hour each Sunday to prep snacks for the week – and we’ve had great success. The kids know what’s available to them, and I have exactly what I need to toss in the pool bag on the way out the door.
Healthy Summer Snacks for Kids
We cut up at least one watermelon a week around here. The kids know they can grab this snack anytime they want.
2. Power Muffins.
The entire family munches on these all summer long. They’re simple to make, super portable – and so delicious. Bonus – they’re gluten free too. Click here for the recipe. (Note: I omit the bananas, and they’re still amazing.)
3. Hardboiled Eggs.
Also portable, tasty and packed with protein.
4. Fruit Kabobs.
Why does everything taste so much better on a stick? I make a batch of kabobs on Sundays, and they’re nearly always gone by Tuesday. The kabob makes them so much easier for my kids to grab on their own – rather than waiting for me to dish the fruit up for them.
What? Those aren’t healthy… well, mine are. I just whip up my favorite smoothies and pour them into popsicle molds. The kids have at least one a day, and I never have to deny their requests for a popsicle. Click here for the Banana ice cream recipe and click here for the smoothie popsicle recipe.
It’s high in fiber and a great snack all summer long. I make a huge batch on the stove at the beginning of the week and dish them out into lunch sacks that can be grabbed and devoured throughout the week.
7. Energy Balls.
No-bake, full of good-for-you fiber, gluten free and dairy free – that’s my kind of snack. Grab the recipe here.
